Open Standards Featured at FMS 2023

SNIA welcomes colleagues to join them at the upcoming Flash Memory Summit, August 8-10, 2023 in Santa Clara CA. SNIA is pleased to join standards organizations CXL Consortium™ (CXL™), PCI-SIG®, and Universal Chiplet Interconnect Express™ (UCIe™) in an Open Standards Pavilion, Booth #725, in the Exhibit Hall.  CMSI will feature SNIA member companies in a computational storage cross industry demo by Intel, MINIO, and Solidigm and a Data Filtering demo by ScaleFlux; a software memory tiering demo by VMware; a persistent memory workshop and hackathon; and the latest on SSD form factors E1 and E3 work by SNIA SFF TA Technical work group. SMI will showcase SNIA Swordfish® management of NVMe SSDs on Linux with demos by Intel Samsung and Solidigm. CXL will discuss their advances in coherent connectivity.  PCI-SIG will feature their PCIe 5.0 architecture (32GT/s) and PCIe 6.0 (65GT/s) architectures and industry adoption and the upcoming PCIe 7.0 specification development (128GT/s).  UCIe will discuss their new open industry standard establishing a universal interconnect at the package-level. Are We at the End of the 2.5-inch Disk Era?

The SNIA Solid State Storage Special Interest Group (SIG) recently updated the Solid State Drive Form Factor page to provide detailed information on dimensions; mechanical, electrical, and connector specifications; and protocols. On our August 4, 2020 SNIA webcast, we will take a detailed look at one of these form factors – Enterprise and Data Center SSD Form Factor (EDSFF) – challenging an expert panel to consider if we are at the end of the 2.5-in disk era. Enterprise and Data Center Form Factor (EFSFF) is designed natively for data center NVMe SSDs to improve thermal, power, performance, and capacity scaling. EDSFF has different variants for flexible and scalable performance, dense storage configurations, general purpose servers, and improved data center TCO.  At the 2020 Open Compute Virtual Summit, OEMs, cloud service providers, hyperscale data center, and SSD vendors showcased products and their vision for how this new family of SSD form factors solves real data challenges. SNIA Storage Developer Conference-The Knowledge Continues

SNIA’s 18th Storage Developer Conference is officially a success, with 124 general and breakout sessions;  Cloud Interoperability, Kinetiplugfest 5c Storage, and SMB3 plugfests; ten Birds-of-a-Feather Sessions, and amazing networking among 450+ attendees.  Sessions on NVMe over Fabrics won the title of most attended, but Persistent Memory, Object Storage, and Performance were right behind.  Many thanks to SDC 2016 Sponsors, who engaged attendees in exciting technology discussions.

For those not familiar with SDC, this technical industry event is designed for a variety of storage technologists at various levels from developers to architects to product managers and more.  And, true to SNIA’s commitment to educating the industry on current and future disruptive technologies, SDC content is now available to all – whether you attended or not – for download and viewing.

Following the Education Afternoon, the SSSI will host a reception and networking event in SCCC Room 203/204 from 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm with SSSI leadership providing perspectives on the persistent memory and SSD markets, SSD performance, NVDIMM, SSD data recovery/erase, and interface technology. Attendees will also be entered into a drawing to win solid state drives.
